Benvenuti! Welcome to Vicenza!

Vicenza is a beautiful city steeped in rich history, with a wealth of cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities.  Located about 45 minutes west of Venice and within a few hours drive of Austria, Switzerland and world-renowned Italian cities, most of the American military community works on Caserma Ederle, located just east of downtown Vicenza.  It is home to the U.S. Army Africa headquarters, part of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, other tenant units and the U.S. Army Garrison Vicenza headquarters.

Camp Ederle is actually an Italian military base where we are guests of the Italian government, so all of our operations are done in close cooperation with the Italian authorities.  Our personnel also work at smaller facilities in and around Vicenza.  Construction is ongoing at a nearby location, Dal Molin, which will become the home of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team when the Germany-based units relocate to Vicenza in the next few years.

Vicenza is a power-projection platform for our troops, but we also provide Soldiers, families and civilians great community support.  All the amenities you might need are available on the installation or in the local community.  We are constructing a new, larger health clinic, a school complex and recently completed a brand new addition to our lodging.

A small percentage of our Soldiers with families live in our housing area, Villaggio, and some junior enlisted Soldiers live in barracks on Caserma Ederle.  However, the majority of our population lives in and around Vicenza, in private rentals and in government-leased apartments.  Housing in Italy is different from what you may have experienced at other installations, and I encourage you to read our newcomer information to get a better idea of what to expect once you arrive in Vicenza.

An assignment to Italy is an amazing opportunity to experience a new culture and way of life, while still enjoying the support of our Army family.  Welcome to our community and welcome to Vicenza!
