  • Hazardous Materials
    • A working definition of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) is: a useable item or material that because of its physical and/or chemical nature contains any of the characteristics that are "hazardous", such as: ignitable, corrosive, reactive, toxic, or is a strong oxidizer or strong reducer. There are hundreds of chemicals which may harm humans either directly or indirectly, when spilled in our environment. These chemicals can return to us through our food and water supply. Under no circumstances should hazardous wastes be put into any of your household trash or recycling containers. The environmental office has technical information available on how to use and dispose of harmful materials and substances safely. For more information, please contact the Environmental Office above.
